Step off a plane in Jakarta, Indonesia and you may find yourself leaving that massive city and weaving up a mountain road. This road will eventually end at tea farm nestled in a mountain notch, the ocean a distant view. If you find yourself here, you’ll know you arrived at Indonesia’s finest, organic tea farm.  At the center is the Tea Master’s house, where all things tea are executed with care and precision. Not far down the road is a village, and a little further down the hill is another village. These are the people who grow, pick and manufacture our tea. This farm produces the best tea Java, Indonesia has to offer and we are proud to carry it.

Indonesia, originally called the Spice Islands and an archipelago nation with over 18,000 islands, has a long history with tea. After Dutch colonization, tea exports to Europe began in 1828. Independent from the Dutch in 1945, it remains a global contender with tea and ranks 6th in world tea production. While most of Indonesia produces tea for tea bags, the farm we work with manufactures premium, whole leaf tea for specialty tea markets. Drink this tea knowing that this is simply the best tea you can get from Java!

Tea Trip to Indonesia

We tasted some fantastic tea from Indonesia and decided to bring that tea to our customers in Missoula, Montana. We contacted the Indonesian tea farm this fall. In addition to being very helpful with our tea order, they graciously invited us to visit them this winter. We jumped at the invitation. We found ourselves in the most populous city in Southeast Asia and the capital of the world’s largest Muslim majority country – Jakarta.
