An organic, robust Chinese black tea with a heavier body. Hints of malt, toffee, and creme brûlé.
Bold, Malty, and Nutty
Black
Red Elephant is a rich, robust black tea. With malt, toffee, and creme brulé notes. A raw, baked finish gives this tea a heavier mouthfeel. Large, whole leaves include tippy buds, withstanding multiple re-steeps.
We named this tea for the approximately 300 elephants in southern Yunnan Province, China. The name highlights the time when 14 of these elephants migrated north to Kunming. They gradually circled back to the reserve in southern Yunnan.
This exquisite tea grows on Yunnan's Jingmai Mountain, where the Dai people have handpicked this tea from the ancient tea trees for millennia. Red Elephant comes from a region in southern Yunnan where the 700 to 1,000 year old ancient tea trees grow. Because the ancient tea trees grow in a natural, rainforest environment, the leaf provides a unique combination of rich antioxidants, minerals, and nutrients.
This tea farm is located along the ancient tea horse trade route. Tea was traded for horses with neighboring countries. Given the rich tea history of this region, Red Elephant delivers layers of complexity and nuance.
