Description
Our Roasted Tie Guan Yin makes the most of this classic oolong style, taking a few unexpected turns along the way. The aroma makes a strong first impression: “roasted” for sure. But then the cup steeps up a surprisingly delicate golden color.
The hearty aroma never backs down, but when you take a sip, the tea feels thicker—and tastes sweeter—than expected. It’s nutty and very creamy: think macadamia nuts, with a roasted exterior giving way to buttery sweetness. If you follow each sip along to the end, you’ll find a subtle mineral note waiting there. These large tea leaves perform well for many steeps, and make a compelling gong fu experience.
Tie Guan Yin (or Iron Goddess of Mercy) teas encompass a range of flavors: some roasted like this one, others lighter and more floral. We enjoy how this particular tea balances rich, hearty flavors with an undeniably smooth drinking experience. If you love it, compare with the Java Oolong medium roast: a similar tea with entirely different nuances in flavor.
