Description

Nuxalbari Estate CTC, winner of the Grand Gold Prize, World Black Tea Quality Evaluation Competition in Beijing, 2022. What a tea!

Most of the tea produced in the world—and typically what you find inside a tea bag—is CTC style (or cut, tear, curl). It steeps up fast, strong, and isn’t known for nuance or complexity. Nuxalbari Estate CTC, however, delivers the best of both worlds. Not only does it shine through any amount of milk and sweetener, it also tastes delicious straight: bright and fresh, like no bagged tea will ever be. The astringency feels bracing, not bitter, as it perches between the stout body and the classic Darjeeling muscatel finish. This tea will wake you up! Also a great base for kombucha.

Nuxalbari CTC carries the Women in Tea symbol. We enjoy celebrating our partnership with Nuxalbari Tea Estate, a woman-owned tea farm located at the foothills of the Himalayas. Sonia Jabbar practices environmental stewardship in many ways, from converting the five-generation tea farm to organic practices, to rebuilding elephant habitat and green corridors through the estate. Elephants take sanctuary at Nuxalbari, and Sonia invites the children of her 1,000 employees to learn from the environmental curriculum she has developed on the estate. The government of India has recognized Sonia for her inspired—and inspiring—environmental work.

Lake Missoula Tea Company commits to direct-sourcing teas and botanicals from sustainable farms. First we choose organic ingredients, and then we create our blends in small batches. In short, we love to drink this stuff, and we’re proud to share with you the tastiest, freshest tea possible. Store away from light and oxygen, and your teas will keep for a good long time.

  1. I’ve been drinking this tea for a couple of days and I find it just right. I’ve never before found a Darjeeling with enough heft for a morning brew, but this one delivers. I steep it 5 minutes or mow and add half & half with a tad of honey with no tannin overload.
Winters where I live are damp and cold, so a beefy cuppa something to warm up is well appreciated. The flavor is, well, like tea. It’s plain, comforting and uncomplicated. Nothing wrong with that. I could drink this all day.

  2. Full body with beautiful golden amber color when brewed. Thick buttery mouth feeling that slips away, leaving only the feeling of nostalgia. The way this ctc is then rolled into small pellets makes it brew perfectly with zero astringency; giving way to muscatel and peppery floral notes. A must in the morning to get you pepped up for the day!

  3. We cannot be without this! Just placed another order and highly recommend. This tea changed my understanding of what “good” black tea is; it’s great. And the mission makes my heart feel happy to support.

  4. Amazing tea! This is one of the best we’ve had. It’s rich and soothing and also a nice treat with a bit of raw sweetener and a pinch of whipping cream. It also feels excellent to drink something supporting wildlife and elephants. Thanks for carrying Nuxlabari Estate tea and for answering our call in questions; service was kindly top-notch and packaging was so pretty.
