Green Tea

Green Tea

Green tea is not oxidized, has a light liquor, and is the closest tea type to the leaf on the tea bush. There is a wide range of profiles and flavors, with over 1,500 varieties to explore. For best tasting tea, green tea is brewed at a cooler temperature (170°) and no longer than 3 minutes. If you find it bitter or biting, reduce the heat of your water or steeping time.

About Green Tea

If you enjoy caffeine in the morning, then green tea is a great choice to start your day. Green teas aren’t oxidized, and heat is applied to stop oxidation during manufacturing. Tea leaves may be broken, twisted, or rolled to enhance flavor. Broken leaf tea is typically more potent than its rolled or twisted counterparts, due to the exposure of the entire leaf while steeping. Twisted or rolled teas have varying degrees of sweetness and nuanced flavors.

We highly recommend you brew green tea at a lesser temperature than black tea. Brew your green tea with water at 170° for 2-3 minutes. This produces a great tasting green tea without any bitterness.

Health Benefits

Green tea contains epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).  EGCG is a tea catechin with tremendous antioxidant benefits, including anti cancer effects, increased memory, cardiovascular benefits, and appetite suppressant or weight loss. Green tea offers more antioxidants and generally less caffeine compared to black tea. Drinking green tea daily can also improve your body’s ability to fight colds and flu.
