Organic Sri Lankan black tea

About this tea

Our organic Sri Lankan (formerly Ceylon) steeps up with a brisk, hearty feel that this island nation's tea is known for. Strong woodsy aroma makes a pleasant first impression. The flavor settles into earthy, with a clean mineral note—full, but not too heavy—and a crisp finish.

The small leaf size brews quick and strong, making this an excellent cup to get you going in when you need a caffeine jolt.

Englishman James Taylor introduced tea to Sri Lanka in the 1860's. Sri Lanka is now a major exporter of tea, much of which is orthodox black tea to the Middle East and Russia.

Formerly known as the British Colony of Ceylon in 1815, Sri Lanka achieved independence from Britain in 1948 and renamed itself Sri Lanka in 1972. In 2011, the Sri Lankan government had a goal to remove the name Ceylon from all things it had control over, including tea. Cheers to the sovereign Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the fourth highest producer of tea worldwide!
