Second Friday: Abstract paintings and Americana

Now that you’ve recovered from your Fourth of July holiday weekend, come out for Second Friday: Abstract paintings and Americana music. See some great abstract paintings and mixed media and meet the painter, Marlo Crocifisso. Sip some delicious free tea while you listen to the talented four-piece band, The Wild Examples. This tried-and-true crew have been playing in various other local and non-local bands for years. The event goes from 5-8 pm.

Marlo Crocifisso- Contemporary, bold, urban-influenced paintings

Born and raised in Helena, Montana, Marlo Crocifisso received her B.A. in Fine Art from the University of Montana in 2006, with a main focus on studio art, photography, and ceramics. During her time at the university she participated in a one-year study abroad in Malta at the University of Malta, where she studied Art History and various studio arts like printmaking and etching.  More importantly, however, while abroad she was exposed to the vibrant European street art and graffiti scene on many weekend trips to the continent’s major cities.  Opened to an entirely new world of art and expression, she began cutting stencils and spraying them on the streets of Malta and eventually in Missoula upon her return. Three years later, after a quick residency in Friday Harbor, Washington, Crocifisso returned to Europe to work as a language assistant teaching English in a French high school. Again able to travel, she visited many of the museums and art collections around Western Europe that she had previously skipped over on her way to, who knows, perhaps graffiti them. This time viewing the works of such masters as Caravaggio, Guido Reni, Van Gogh, Schiele, Picasso, Rothko, and Leon Golub, Marlo was shook on a previously unknown formal level and inspired to pick up painting as her main form of expression. Upon arrival back in the states and Missoula in 2009, she immediately started painting on large scale canvas, beginning experiments with stencil-integrated, street-informed paintings. At this same time, Crocifisso started working for local and internationally know artist Monte Dolack as his personal picture framer, and designing with customers. Carrying her skills obtained after six years framing for The Dolack Gallery, Crocifisso embarked on her own adventure by opening a custom frame shop in 2016. Located above the Von Common Studios, is Art Haus Fine Art Framing. Crocifisso has shown in many locations around Missoula and throughout the state. Marlo is also a founding member and current resident of the Missoula based art collective Von Common.

What our customers have to say:

“LTMC is 1 of 5 of my favorite tea places ever visited. It’s adorable, good background music, friendly, knowledgeable staff & has a great selection of loose leaf teas. They have both a loose leaf & drink service & the Matcha Palmer on a hot day was just the thing. Highly recommend this place! ”

- Carrie M.

“I've been to a number of tea shops and this place has been consistently wonderful over the years. So much selection, good people... I hope they expand sometime soon. Seems a tad cramped, but not too cramped you can't enjoy a nice tea at the outdoor seating! ”

I had a friend share some of their instant golden latte mix with me and it is amazing. I suffer from really bad inflammation in my hands and this calms it down so well. It is also very delicious so I just had to get some of my own. They also sent me some stickers, a nice note and a sample. It was so sweet. My cat definitely approves. Thank you!

Best store in Montana possibly in all of the United States. I don't know. This is the first Gong Fu tea shop I've ever been to. I came in for a matcha whisk because I donated mine to a museum. Before I left a random customer who was introduced to me as a regular bought me tea. I hugged him which isn't something I normally do. But I was incredibly thankful. Then the man behind the counter gave me a free sample. I went in looking for a simple tool and left with tea and a happy spirit. I am looking forward to making it back as soon as possible! I loved it. I think it will always hold a special place in my blood pumping organ.

I've been going to Lake Missoula Tea Company for years, and recently have had the privilege of putting some of their tea in my store. The quality of the tea is fantastic, and the blends are delightful. I have also attended one of their tasting / learning events and it was great. I highly recommend their downtown store for meeting with friends, family or even just for a nice place to go and have a cup of perfectly brewed tea.
